well, obviously i'm not going to "support" whoever is under center for texas because even though i pretty much root for them (except for one or two games a year), i can't say i really mind seeing the longhorns struggle, even if it is only with the decision between 2 good quarterbacks. i still must digress about simms being better than applewhite, though. like i said before, i think he can be better, but i just don't think he is at this point in time. i think mack gave in to daddy simms and started chris. if his last name were smith and not simms, i don't think he'd be starting. honestly, if applewhite were starting, i wouldn't see a legitimate weakness in texas's team, but for me not to see simms as the team's lone weakness, i'll have to see him perform well against a couple of good secondaries.

Damn ... the Simms/Applewhite debate has made it over to tamut. It's official - the damn thing won't die. Every quarterback in the last, what, 14 years has lost his starting job to the backup (with the exception of James Brown, who would have) at the time due to injury. People are up in arms about it happening to Major, who took the job from Richard Walton, who took over for JB, who took over for Shea Morenz, who took it from Gardere (after Pete beat OU FOUR YEARS STRAIGHT). Did Major get shafted? Sure. Is Simms the better QB? I think so ... And it's not fair to Simms to say that he only has had one good game. Last year, he looked very competent against Kansas, A&M, and Oregon (two of the picks were meaningless, and if one of three balls are caught, Simms suddenly gave a "gutsy" performance, rather than a 4-int performance). This year, he's thrown one interception in three games, and, at least against Houston, was looking off recievers and checking down to the 3rd and 4th option. In addition, he led the drive to open the 3rd quarter to really put the game away. Clutch.
One thing I like to say to people who chant "Major's the better QB, all he does is win ..." is -- What is Majors record against the last 5 ranked teams he's played? Anyone know? That's right, it's 1-4. He hasn't really won a serious game since Neb in '99. A little revisionist history is really helping him in some people's eyes. Would he also be winning, were he starting right now? Most definately. Is it the worlds greatest injustice that he's not starting? No way. Is Mack hurting our football team by playing Simms? Not even close.
So I say drop it, and let's support whoever is behind center, be he wearing one "1" or two.
And that's all I have to say about that. Well, except that we're gonna fuck up K-liff pretty badly ... I hope Jammer comes free on a corner blitz ...
