varsity blues did not do well in the box office. if you knew what the show was actually about (http://sports.tamu.edu/sidelines/index.html), you would realize its less about football, and more about the town its in. people like football, i wont deny that, but not all things about football make it. the xfl didnt make it. the replacements did ok. the audience for such a program as sidelines is limited. if your team was a national contender, it might be different. but your team is failing. people in new york could give two shits about how football affects the lives of people in bryan/college station. my dad likes football shit, but has no intention of watching the show (he laughed about it when i last talked to him).
You people from cs need to realize that your not all that and a bag of potato chips. some people will watch the show and laugh at your school, and i dont know if thats the attention your going for, but i doubt it. this is similar to the bleachers situation of last week. austinites were upset, people in cs could care less. people in cs will be excited about sidelines, people in america will care less.
my prediction: in the future, sidelines will be shown on espn right before the world's strongest man competitions.

i started typing this whole letter bashing m&a and the football squad, but ill save it for rivalry week. anyways, i think that football in rural texas is poor subject material for a tv show. its ratings will probably be high in east texas, but nationally i would not be surprised to see it flop. and as for ak... person, i must have hurt your faggie feelings, but live with it. in no way did i intend to aim my comments at one person, but apparently something i said 'hit home' with you.
People, realize this, most of the things i say are in jest. I like you m&a folk, but a number of you cannot handle the same harrassment you dish out to ut students. we dont have bumper stickers showing 'castrate reveille', and we do not havbe the quantity of other derogatory stickers that m&a has. we dont show the same animosity towards you that you do to us.
and if you get offended by something i say, then imagine how some horns feel we you say 'saw em off' or call us all austinite fags.
if your going to dish it out, be prepared to eat it too. my $0.02.
p.s. ak is a dumbass faggie

Im not saying that ut is better subject material for a tv story. Im saying that a college in rural texas is not very good subject material. Its on the same lines as the movie varsity blues (high school, i know), which did not do very well in the theater. People outside m&a wont care. as far as tradition goes, the schools are pretty much equal. as far as pride goes, ut lacks m&a in that department.
notre dame did fall out of ap ratings (thank god, i saw results from when they were 0-1, when they were still in). teams in the top 5 have dropped out of the top 25 before with a loss, and i thought that with the thrashing that fsu recieved at the hands of unc, a team beat soundly by ut, marlyand, and ou, they had a chance of dropping out (they really deserved to).
