I got a hummer at 17.

Oh...you meant the car.

Okay, let me rephrase. For someone who already has an Escalade, a "real nice car" is way beyond the $50k range.

Did anyone hear about LeBron James getting a Hummer? A freaking Hummer and he's 17 years old. Un-freaking-believable.

I think the definition of awkward is running into a drunken hookup on campus and having no idea what to say, but trying to make small talk because you both feel obligated.

Alot of pro. athletes drive escelades and cars of the like. They're all tricked out, but still the same basic car. Then again, they have 2 or 3 other $50,000~$100,000 cars... ;-)

Well, put things into perspective. A "real nice car" to a professional athlete is a lot more than a $50,000 Escalade. My mom drives an Escalade. NFL QBs drive much bigger than that.

Speaking of cars, my MKT 337 prof told us today that he has a Vanquish (Aston Martin, for those of you who aren't into cars), an M5, and some other really expensive car. Then he goes "come to my house and I'll show them to you. I have them all sitting on my shelf." He appears to be a funny guy, so I might enjoy this class. It's the biggest class I've had at UT though. 465 students.

Yeah, I guess Simms' $53,000 Cadillac Escalade is a real piece of shit. Boy, he must have suffered through college with that car. I'm sure he earned every penny to buy it, too. "Buy a real nice car"...give me a break, Richie Rich.

On another note...Kelly, my $315 at the Co-op has turned into $400+ thanks to the "supplemental" books and "suggested" reading. I hear ya.

from ESPN's "10 Questions with Chris..."

2. What three CDs are getting the most play in your stereo?

Simms: I listen to Ashanti. I'm a big P. Diddy fan. Erykah Badu, if you've heard of her, has been in the CD a lot.

10. What's your first big purchase after signing a pro contract?

Simms: A real nice car -- like everybody else, I'm sure.

i don't know, i thought it was funny.

I sure hope the governor didn't place a bet on the game this year considering he is an Aggie.

I thought I escaped nicely with $370... until all the profs started telling us about the extra crap we need to buy... don't you love the words "supplemental readings" and "I highly reccomend you purchase this book, though it isn't required". The second one is read as "Unless you want to bomb the tests, you'd better buy this because 75% of the questions are from it".

But. I HAVE NO FINALS. That's right, ladies and gentlemen: I am done on May 2.

Well, I can't say I blame him for feeling the way he does, but this is kinda surprising, coming from a guy who said just a month or so ago that he had no regrets and wouldn't change anything if he had the chance to do it over again. He certainly isn't doing himself any favors with these new comments, but he apparently doesn't care anymore. I would like to see him have a successful career in the NFL if for no other reason than me not believing he got a fair shake in college.

On a completely unrelated note, my Co-op bill was $523 for 5 classes. Anyone want to go sell some plasma with me?

OU_Guy... I know this. It's the Red River Shootout, NOT the Red River WAR.
My point was that Simms can't even get it right when it's UT's biggest game every year. Shows how much of a true whorn he is.

OU_Architecture_Guy ®  - Somewhere not in Texas or not important

JD, your local map store can tell you that the Red River separates Texas and Oklahoma along much of their shared border. Every year since there has been OU and UT football (and a bridge to get across the river), the two teams meet about half way (Dallas) to play thier annual game. The game became known as the "Red River Shootout" as if to say a battle of Oklahoma and Texas. Typically the governor's of both states put a little bet on the game every year. Although to Simms it's obvious is a much more important game to him as he referred to it as a war.

Bit of triva: Every year the "Rufnecks" or Oklahoma's equivelent of A&M yell leaders without the overalls, drive to the Red River and have to swim of wade across the river. During their first "swim" the white shirts they were wearing got dyed red from mud and ever since they have worn Red Shirts of previous Rufnecks. Hence why most of the shirts look old and worn. Because they are. They are only replaced when they no longer can be sewn or repaired.

Simms isn't too happy with UT from the sound of it...
from ESPN:
"I wish it had been different my sophomore year," Simms said. "We lost to OU 63-14. I didn't get into the game until it was 35-0. After that, they picked Major as the starter. I wish they had picked me as the starter. Because the season was lost at that point. We had lost to Oklahoma and we had lost to Stanford. We weren't going to win the national championship. I was really hoping they would make me the starter so I could get more experience for the next year."
"They knew there was more upside (with me). As soon as we got done with that bowl game after my sophomore year, they told me, 'You're going to be the starter next year. Don't worry about it.' So, if you knew that all year, why didn't I play the last five games and let me get some experience?"
"That's the thing that I've always regretted. Going into my junior year I was inexperienced. In my fifth game ever, there I am sitting there against Oklahoma in the Red River War, against the No. 2 team in the country."
"It came close, really close, to changing me," Simms said. "Last year, I was in a bad mood all the time. I was angry at a lot of people. I was angry at this place, the coaches, the people. ... I was bitter about everything in the world. It almost did get the best of me. I just wanted to leave here and say, 'To hell with this place.' "

He just sounds a little bitter to me... and what's up with the "Red River War"????

From what I've heard since asking friends who've taken it in the past, it's really not a hard class to ace, as long as you go to class and keep up with the reading.

i went to the 1:00 today to see what it would be like, and whether or not i wanted to try to add it. but after the my 3 other classes today, i don't think i'll be able to...lots of work in those classes and i'm gonna try to get a job this semester. i hope he teaches it next fall.

I liked him. The whole "no dropping a test" thing makes me a little nervous, though, since you don't have much of a cushion to your grade with any non-test assignments, save the 20% for the case studies, which also make me nervous... you can bet I'll be turning in the practice one. Let's hear it for no final, though. I hope that holds out for my management class tomorrow morning, then I'm set to go. Are you in the 1:00 class?

I loved the history major dig.

Well, I've got a lovely crop of professors so far. An old guy who stutters and paces back and forth nervously, some lady with a British accent and a 10-decibel speaking volume so no one can understand a fucking word she says, and to complete the emsemble, a know-it-all Jewish professor who spent the entire 50 minutes today detailing his resume for us.

Just spreading around the fun... I figure if ags will post similar pics with a Tech sticker, I'll post them with an aggie one. :-)
I know the "gig me" part is photo-touched, but I'm not so sure about the other part... after all, it is a maroon car.

Three-day weekend? Do we have next Monday off or something? If you say yes, you'll make my day.

Sunday Jan 12th 11:35pm
Kelly ®  - UT Austin

I'm not ready to start the semseter tomorrow. There are several things that are making it bearable, though: my first class isn't until noon, I only have two classes, and they're German and MKT 320F. That, and we have a three-day weekend this coming weekend.

Shut the fuck up.
