Funny that is not the case at all -- MOST people aren't considering Texas beating LSU in the Cotton Bowl a "big win" -- only Texas fans. But, if you consider beating a 4-loss team that is not ranked in some polls in what basically amounted to a home game for Texas a "big win" then I guess that just shows that Texas has gone far too long without a big win to even know what one is.

Numerous future stars waiting in the wings at Texas ... where have I heard that before. All you need to do is add "that will bring the National Title back to UT" to that phrase to get what we here every 3-4 years.

Recruiting only gets a coach so far... Numerous 10 win seasons only get a coach so far... ALUMNI decides when a coach is done, and UT Alumni can only hear about how good the recruiting is for so long before they start wondering where those National Championships they were promised are.

Again, you make a long list of accomplishments that most never disagreed with all in defense of him "choking in the big games", where it would have been much quicker to just admit "Yes, he did choke in the big games."

Indeed that poll is accurate as I am Baptist and I we do a decent amount of drinking around the holidays. A&M turned down two bowls. I am not quite sure which ones, but I can get the information. I am almost positive one was the Humanitarian bowl. They didn't want R.C. to coach one more game or have Fran coach his first game this season.

Simms did not lead texas to three 10 win seasons. he led them to 1 and a half. as for the cotton bowl, this year it was a larger than usual game, but yall got fucked on opponent. You should have been playing Auburn because Alabama would have taken thier spot. If not for their ncaa shit yall woulda had an interesting game.

I know the Cotton Bowl isn't as big as it used to be, mainly because of the BCS, not the disbanding of the SWC. My issue is that the only people claiming it wasn't a big game are Aggies. I guess since you guys are fresh off your bowl absence, you know better than anyone what a big game is.

As to Texas fans calling for the firing of Mack Brown after next season, don't count on it. We lose some important players, but we've got numerous future stars waiting in the wings. The names of all those linemen and the #1 QB prospect in the state that we picked up last year spring to mind. If not for Brown, we wouldn't have those players. To those of you saying it's wasted talent, I'll refer you to Josh and Kelly's posts about our 11-win seasons and top 10 finishes. As for Simms, no one is claiming that he didn't pick the worst times to have bad games. But instead of looking at what he didn't do, think about what he did do. He might not have beaten OU, but he beat A&M three years in a row, he beat Nebraska in Lincoln, which only one other QB (Major) has done in over a decade, he beat Kansas State in Manhattan, which is something even his beloved predecessor (Major) failed to do, and he finished his career with the best completion percentage and best efficiency rating in the history of Texas football. I think we can all agree that's a long list of outstanding QBs.

For the manyt times I have chased storms and huricanes in south florida with chaser Jim leonard, I,am so proud that his team took a spill and got beat in overtime. We will not have to hear the big mouths of the huricanes for a long time. Thus it was enjoyment watching this team leave the feild with tears. I occasionally wonder if Chris Simms father wasn't as famous as he is... would he still get all the shit he gets from people? He was never going to be the sentimental favorite Applewhite was/is, but my God--if UT fans can accept him for what he did while playing for UT, why won't anyone else? They're the ones who are most directly impacted, after all.

Yeah proof that UT Qb's dont make it in the NFL is a pretty moot point. 99% of the QB's dont make it. Ryan Leaf. Akili Smith. Gino Toretta. Andre Ware. Most Penn State, Florida State, Alabama, A&M, OSU, or even Miami (last one to do even decently was Vinny Testaverde class of 86) Qb's dont fare well. For a QB to make it in the nfl is tough shit, regardless of what school you attend.

That said, UT players usually make it better in the NFL than most schools, particularly the O-Line and the Rb's. Ricky and Priest are the two best Rb's in the nfl. Leonard Davis, Mike Williams, Jammer and now Dockery are going to be stars. So don't give me that crap.

Point out to me again the starting (or hell even backup) QBs in the NFL that are UT products? I'll save you the time: none... So your "where QBs go to die" comment really doesn't make a whole lotta sense.

And when I say "big game", I mean big game on a NATIONAL level that has NATIONAL impact -- not a rivalry game.

And I never called the guy a failure, I even said he did what a lot of college QBs can't do... But that doesn't change the fact that the guy choked in big games -- there's no stat that any of you horns can produce that shows otherwise -- 15 INT and 0 TD does.

I'm not coming on here saying UT sucks, or Chris Simms sucks -- their record the past 4 years is proof that they don't... But how you UT fans can continue not admitting to the fact that Simms choked in the big games, and that the talented freshman recruiting class from 4 years ago wasted an incredible opportunity due to the play of Simms and the coaching of Brown in the big games.

I think UT fans are just going to have to accept the fact that those outside of Austin who'll give Simms the credit he deserves are few and far between. Simms had his choke moments, and there's the fact that he may never live down who is father is, but he got the job done during his seasons as a starter. No, they didn't win a national title, but as Josh said--consecutive top-ten finishes and consecutive 11-win seasons are nothing to sneeze at, either. He has 3 consecutive wins over A&M and a win at Nebraska. I'm starting to think, however, that we should have gotten Big Daddy Simms to actually pay someone off--the refs.
