Plus, only an idiot would say to Drew Tate, "No, our QB position is full. Look elsewhere." And anybody with half a brain knows that. Look no further than Applewhite/Simms. Manning/Stewart. The list goes on and on and on.

How many decommits did Texas lose when Mac hit the road? What about Ohio State? Notre Dame? Higher than usual? Nope.

I agree with the statement that if an unsavory character replaces RC then we'll lose recruits. That's a given. But people should wait to see who replaces RC before they start blowing the decommit horn. Especially, with statements like "I like the look of Tech's system," and turning it into "I'm looking at Tech now that RC has been fired." I get a little miffed at premature assumptions based on nothing but conjecture. Not one recruit has said, "I don't go without RC."

A lot of issues need to be cleared up here and I think I have respectable sources with a trainer friend on the team and getting into coach parties this year:

A) R.C. went to McNeese State as an undergraduate, but he has been in Aggieland forever.

B) 45 days ago, Drew Tate made a comment that he liked the system at Tech (throwing screens, never moving or taking a lot of hits) and he is eyeing that as a possibilty, but is not sure.

C) What everyone in Aggieland knows...R.C's contract expires in 2006 and he is now a special assistant to President Gates...recruiting shouldn't be affected more than any other year. (Players change commitments all the time)

I agree with JD. I don't think Tate is decommiting, nor do I think he is leaning in that direction right now. However, some of the recruits that RC brought in will have second thoughts. I'm not saying they're all going to jump ship, but you can't honestly say they're all so committed to A&M that something as major as a head coaching change won't cause some kind of disturbance, especially if the new coach isn't a promising character. It doesn't help that the new AD (Byrne, from NU) doesn't come with much of a recommendation from the Husker faithful.

What makes you think he hasn't investigated other programs when he mentioned interest in both TT and Iowa? That doesn't make any sense.

So numbers mean everything? OK, I guess Kliff is the best QB in the nation after all...

Special statement: Jim leonard out of south florida today has declaired he would no longer be a storm chaser. As many can see on his web-site he has chased huricanes,,,and tornadoes for many years. I read an article on aggiesports.com in which Tate claimed that his decision would be based on who they bring in to replace Slocum. He said that he's not a QB who is going to run a lot, so if they hire someone who focuses on the run, he would be looking elsewhere, but he claims to still be a solid commit to A&M at this point.

Me: I didn't say for sure that A&M is willing to spend $14 million on a new coach, but I was told that by a reliable source. Unless you work for the athletic department and you have inside info, you shouldn't be claiming anything definitive, one way or another. One thing is for sure, they would have to be putting up a nice sum if they want Belotti or Mike Price, who I hear is a one of the top 4 or 5 guys being considered. Those two are not about to leave their current positions to try to drag A&M from the cellar steps unless they were getting paid generously for it. With all of Alabama's NCAA issues, Franchione has more of a reason to sacrifice money for a less troublesome job.

About affecting Aggie recruiting...
The Fox station in Houston had an interview with Drew Tate (one of A&M's top recruits)
He said that with A&M firing Slocum, he's going to retract his commitment, especially if A&M hires Francy. He wants a pass-happy offense, so he is looking at TT and Iowa now. But TT's not looking back from what I here, cuz we already got our top QB recruit. His only chance here would be to battle for the position.

You better get a damn good coach to replace RC, or you'll have even more decommits than you did last year. I'm guessing money is not an issue. I've heard that A&M is willing to pay Franchione $14 million for 5 years. That's almost as much as Stoops and Brown combined. You could get a lot of guys down there for that kind of money.

Tech can't even talk about a Big XII Championship game because:

A) They've never been to one.
B) Therefore they have never won a Big XII championship game.

And by the way...we've been to two of those, and come out with one win... just in case you were going to try and throw that back at us.
