i guess i will go ahead and start a chris berman-like trend and predict that texas is going to win the national championship this year. i did it last year, too, and my hope is that since almost nothing in college football that i want to happen does, my prediction will cause this not to happen also. that's sound logic, right?

OU_Architecture_Guy:

Where does all your hostility come from? Did I say anything negative about OU in my post? I, too, think OU is the #1 team in the country right now, hands down. I was pointing out for an Aggie that Simms played the game of his career and that beating Nebraska in Lincoln is HUGE, regardless of the fact that the Huskers are not as good this year as they typically are. Not every comment made about college football refers either directly or indirectly to Oklahoma, so get over yourself.

And yes, UT winning in Lincoln is a quality win just as OU beating an unranked OSU team is a quality win because of intangibles that aren't factored into any ranking system. And if you don't think so, then what happened in Norman last year? If your team has to play for all 60 minutes and gains something more than just a W from the game, it is a quality win.

The one thing I like about this year is that there is no one team that looks certain to make it to the Fiesta Bowl. Miami has talent, but they haven't shown it recently and are only a missed field goal from having their repeat hopes virtually eliminated, and they still have games against two top 25 teams. Oklahoma has no top 25 teams left in their current schedule, but they have a game at Kyle Field(if our team shows up), their rivalry game in Stillwater, and most likely the Big XII Championship game against another tough team. OSU still has two road games left, and the season finale at home against Michigan. Reminds me of '95 when a 9-0 OSU team with players such as Eddie George, Orlando Pace, and Terry Glenn saw their Rose Bowl hopes disappear when they lost to Michigan. At least the game isn't in Ann Arbor this year. It's sad to say, but it isn't too far-fetched to predict a Texas/OU national championship. And if our team is going to suck ass this year, might as well have an all Big XII Fiesta Bowl.

Kelly ... while most sooners DO have sticks up their asses (they couldn't win in Lincoln, so of course they aren't going to give us our due), I don't have a stick up my ass. OU is the best team in the country right now, and I really don't see how there can be any question. #12 (or something) ISU gained like 7 yards in the first half, on the way to a 41-3 (or something) destruction at the hands of the Sooners. #12 ranked Colorado, a notoriously good late-season team, rolls into Norman and leaves with it's tail between its legs by some other rediculous score. Meanwhile, VaTech, ND and UGA lose, and Miami trails at home in the 4th quarter to Rutgers. Yes, 1-8 Rutgers.

OU is the best in the land. That said, I want another shot at those sister-fuckers in Arizona. Damn, and how. That would NOT be a ring-toss game.

I think we should just accept that OU fans have huge sticks up their asses and are unable to recognize quality wins unless the winning team has "OU" or "Miami"--or hell, anything but "Texas" in front of it.

UT played an incredible game. Jammer rocked, Simms rocked, Williams rocked. You can say what you will about Nebraska not being a big game, but talk to the 75 teams that have lost there over the recent years and ask them if it was a big game. I have nothing but respect for the quality way the Longhorns played, and the guts they showed. Keep in mind that big plastic bubble practice field or not, UT hasn't played in weather conditions like those in Nebraska, or anything close for that matter, all season. For Williams to put in the game he did while still not being at 100% in the freezing temperatures is pretty damn amazing. Simms was the player of the game, no questions asked.

And besides--I'd say we deserve to be where we are in the rankings. Sure, Texas has lost, but they're saying it over and over--Texas is the best one-loss team in the country. You can bitch and moan about "big games" and "quality wins" and "Chrissy Simms". But ask Notre Dame if the BC game wasn't a big one--BC's not even ranked, so where's the descrepancy? At least our loss came at the hands of the #1 ranked team in the country... ranked, not straight up #1, because I'm still not sure of that one.

Ashley,
Damn talk about harping when no one has said shit. So I guess I will start.
NEBRASKA (UNRANKED) even at home is not considered a big game. They are a big opponent and have thier strengths, but come on. Simms played well. No question about that. But that is not the Nebraska everyone used to know. Can you even tell me when the last time NU lost to Iowa State or Oklahoma State? It's been a long freaking time. And OSU almost handed Texas it's hat at home. Plain and simple, it was two above mediocre teams playing in an OVER hyped game with one unranked opponent and one over ranked opponent. Open Sunday's Sports Day II of the Dallas Morning News (college football section) and who is on the cover? Not the Irish losing, or Miami winning, or even OU winning, or any of the BCS upsets but the Orange and White winning over an unranked team. I know that's not Texas's fault, but it adds to the hype with fans when they see thier team in print.

And when the BCS gets blasted this week Texas has no where to move but up since spots 3,4 & 6 lost. Which again is going to show a far better standing of the shape the Texas team then reality.

Exactly. Nebraska may not be as good as they typically are, but let's put things in perspective. Major Applewhite and Chris Simms are the only QB's and Mack Brown is the only head coach to beat the Huskers in Lincoln in over a decade. Over the past four weeks, we've played Oklahoma, Kansas State, Iowa State, and Nebraska. 3 ranked teams, 2 night road games, and we walked away 3-1, losing only to the team that is currently first in the BCS standings. I'm sorry, but that's huge.

Chris Simms threw for 419 yards and 2 TDs, with pretty much only one receiver, and played part of the game with a dislocated finger. How you can sit back and claim that his performance was merely "good" is beyond me. He could not possibly have played a better game. But is my sincere hope that when the Aggies roll into town in a few weeks, he shows you just what being "good" is all about. You remember what happened the last time A&M took the field at DKR against Simms, right?

Yeah... just keep this in mind: In 75 wins at home, Nebraska has lost twice. Both losses were at the hands of Texas. Nebraska is a huge game. Playing Nebraska at home should be equivalated to playing A&M at home--all bets are off as far as rankings and who has the better team.

How anyone can call a game in Lincoln, Nebraska not a "big game" is beyond me. I'm really sorry that we can only play OU once a year (unless Miami loses before the year is out :) ). Let me check with the commissioner of the Big 12 - perhaps we can flip out the Baylor game and bring Ohio State to town - that might be a big enough game for some people.

No, Nebraska's not Oklahoma. But even Stoops lost in Lincoln last year.

Well, we are #1 in the AP Poll, and still #1 in the BCS. Only a few points behind Miami in the ESPN/USA Today Poll. Why the hell can't Quentin Griffin get some damn respect for the Heisman. He is a big of a candidate as anyone else this year.

We all took the SAT's right? So here is one for you UT people....... Chris Simms is to overrated as Brad is to way too drunk. Im not too sure if that makes snense at this point,. but I hope my messgae gets across.

while both receivers and defenders have the right to fight for position on a pass, the receiver is not allowed to push off the defender on a comeback.

as for simms playing in big games, i don't think that question can be answered in relation to saturday. simms played great, but although nebraska had a long home winning streak, this is not a typical nebraska team, and therefore i would argue this was not a big game. that's like saying that when simms torches the wrecking crew on t+1 that he is stepping up in a big game. he is stepping up, but it's against a team (or defensive unit) that is normally good, but isn't now.

once again, i think simms is playing well, but let's call a spade a spade.

And anyone have anything to say about Simms being "Chrissy"? Because if you do, I'd like to see you go out and play a pass-dominated game with a dislocated finger...

Anyone got anything to say about Chris Simms not having 'it' in big games?

With Clarett day-to-day and talking about the NFL, I wouldn't be surprised if OSU loses a big game, leading the way for the others...

If not for that phantom offensive pass interference call, Texas would have run the clock down and Nebraska wouldn't even have had a shot. It's just a good damn thing Texas won or there probably would have been an uproar over that. Both players have the right to fight for position, and any shoving that occurs before the ball is thrown is not pass interference in any way, shape, or form. Big 12 officials have got to be the worst in the country, particulary Steve Usecheck. As soon as I saw that guy, I knew we were gonna get screwed.

As for the Big XII South title, it could work to our advantage if OU wins it. If we win out, we're all but guaranteed a BCS bowl, and if OU should happen to lose the Big XII title game, Texas could take the Nebraska route to the Fiesta Bowl, assuming only one team finishes the year undefeated. If I were betting, I'd go with Ohio State. Miami is placing seriously complacent football right now, and they still have to play Virginia Tech and Pittsburgh, neither of whom will be intimidated by the Hurricanes' recent performances.

It was absolutley shitty play calling. They should have kicked the field goal on third down with 16 seconds left....it would have tied the game and even if it was blocked and NU recovered, they would have had another kick.

WHOA!!! What's going on here? While the scheme does fit with the rest of the site well, it might be a bit much. But, as Wheatables' gay ass always says, I have nothing intellectual to contribute. So, THERE!

Lucky my ass. It's not our fault they decided to try to have Lord throw the ball. That's just shitty play calling by Nebraska and we took advantage. But realistically we have pretty much no shot at the Big 12 south. At least we're looking at good bowl though.

Sunday Nov 3rd 1:57pm
OU_Architecture_Guy ®  - Somewhere not in Texas or not important

Aggies lost (again). Texas was lucky that Nebraska didn't get that last TD with 16 seconds left on the clock. If they had connected Texas would not have a chance at the Big 12 South Title. Now they just have to hope OU loses 2 more games. Which I don't think will happen.

A&M (in Aggieland) Predicting OU a win
Baylor (in Waco, enough said)
Tech (in Norman) pretty much an OU win.
OSU (in Stillwater) A ring toss.

So if OU wins either A&M or OSU and the other 2 are a given than it will be OU winning Big 12 South.

BOOMER SOONER!!

P.S. Kejaun Jones is Griffin's replacement next season. Definately running better than Benson.
