Wow. I can't believe someone is actually trying to take up for someone doing something that should get them ticketed. In my opinion it isn't just the issue of if it is a memorial or not, but also the issue of crowd control. If they won't stay off the field when told by official people like ushers and cops, why shouldn't they get slugged?

Yes, there was a stay off the field announcement. Also, I saw the same guy get knocked twice....first by a corps guy because he was resisting, then an usher took him down on the way off the field.

They should just ticket all the ones who admit to being on the field for treaspassing. After all, they didn't belong there and it definately wasn't their property. And they did know better, seeing all the cops and corps guys, especially if they had come down in '98. And I could have sworn I heard the announcer tell them to get off the field after they rushed it. An didn't one of the guys who got smacked get told to leave the field but didn't?

Please walk out onto the field if it makes you feel cool. I know you dont have respect for anything A&M does, but there are a lot of people out there who feel like men dying for their country deserves a little more respect than what you show. Its a sad day when people are so anti-A&M that they cant show a little respect for these men. Just because it isn't an "official" memorial, doesnt make it any less of a memorial.

The story I always heard about the UT stadium was that the student body voted to call it Memorial Stadium to commemorate the war veterans... but I guess that could be wrong.

I'm not about punching people, but I agree with defending the field. Nebraska generally has very classy fans, but storming the field at an away game after a victory, despite multiple warnings, is very uncool, and those people got what they deserved.

Look...when you go to your friend's house or your Aunt's house, do you trample through her flower bed on your way out? Would you do it, even if there were police and security officers surrounding her flower bed?

It's very simple. Aggies do not run onto other team's fields or vandalize their stadiums after we beat them. We expect the same courtesy in return. If you insist on ignoring the verbal warnings of the stadium announcer, the police, the security guards, the Yell Leaders, and the Corps, then you deserve to get smacked in the head.

UT's stadium wasn't named Daryl K. Royal until after the construction, I think around 1993. It used to be referred to as simply Memorial Stadium to remember all of the Longhorns that had done something to exemplify how great UT was. (i.e. any grads that sat on the Texas Supreme Court, etc...)

Generally, when a stadium is named "Some guy Memorial Stadium" or just straight up "Memorial Stadium", it refers to a memorial for the wars that the US has fought in--for example, at the Red McCombs gate at Darrell K. Royal Memorial Stadium (UT's stadium), there are signs on either side of the gate commemorating WWI and WWII, Vietnam, Korea, etc. The "Memorial" isn't necessarily for the person it's named after.
