If, and if there was a reason why Kyle Field would be a memorial, it would be because of Reveille and World War I. In the past, all the Reveilles were buried under the endzone, facing the scoreboard so that they could "always watch their Aggies play". When the construction for the zone started, they moved all of the Rev's outside the stadium. They are now all buried in front of the zone with a monument. There is even a scoreboard on that side of the field so that they can still see the score. As taken from the Traditions council web page:
"When Reveille I died on January 18, 1944, she was given a formal military funeral on the gridiron of Kyle Field. She was then buried at the north entrance to the field, as all Reveilles are, facing the scoreboard so that she can always watch the Aggies outscore their opponent."
Also, there are 55 flags surrounding Kyle Field. Each of these flags represent an Aggie that gave his life in World War I. I believe that this is another reason why Kyle Field is an
"unofficial memorial".
