Chivas:
Complex? I don't think so. I'm just stating facts.
And for the record, I have worked outside of Texas. I co-oped at Kimberly-Clark in Wisconsin, and if that's not out of state, I don't know what is. And the career fairs at Tech have many companies from out of state. Please don't try to flame about something you know NOTHING about.
I can flame the programs at UT and A&M because I am familiar with them. I evaluated programs at Tech, A&M, UT, and Rice when I was choosing a school. Tech EE has the superior program by far, except for maybe Rice. Honestly, my first choice was Rice, but I wasn't accepted. I'm not trying to impress by saying I could've gone to UT or A&M, just stating that I could have. I am sure there are many people at Tech who couldn't have gotten in there, though.

Josh:
Until you see the program that the EE's have at Tech, I don't want to hear a thing. I could have gone to A&M or UT if I wanted, but I chose Tech because of the way their EE program works, and how superior it is.
Aside from all other classes, labs, and work you have going on, every EE at Tech goes through 5 project labs. These start the second semester of your sophomore year, and then each sem. till you graduate. In this program, you work on a project in a group and that group presents a 30 minute presentation every week explaining their progress, problems, etc... Aside from giving this presentation and listening to the others in your class, you're expected to spend 20 hrs/week outside of class working on the project. Like I said, you have to go through five of these... it's like a "senior design" every semester starting your sophomore year.
But you know what? Companies realize that and consider our hands on experience to be the best in the state. Yes, BEST, better than both UT and A&M.
I'm in my final lab now, and we're working on some projects that UT "couldn't handle", according to the department of defense.
Oh, and back to the hiring thing... a funny thing about ag's. I spoke with 5 recruiters from different companies who said they refuse to return to recruit at A&M because the candidates didn't have the communication skills to make it through an interview!
So, don't brag about tier1. USNews doesn't know jack. or Tech Project Lab.
