Oh but Kelly, it's just too fun.
Hey Matt - the following are the teams listed ahead of Texas in the Sagarin ratings - VaTech, Miami, Oklahoma, FSU (what?), OhioSt, Oregon, Georgia, LSU, ISU, ND, NCSt, USC, AirForce, Kansas St, and Michigan. Even if ALL of those teams are better than UT (which is a whole different question), that still places Texas 16th ranking at 84.5 %. So, SOME people think UT is better than 85% of the country. But I'm sure that since Sagarin backs up my argument, it's invalid for some reason.
Which teams would you say are "in the hunt" for the national title?
As for Chris Simms, he's hardly an arrogant asshole. He's stood up after EVERY bad game, including and especially Colorado2, and taken FULL BLAME for the game he played. He's said that he needs to improve on this or that, and answered every question to the fullest extent. He's never pointed fingers or played the "what if" game. He's best friends with each of his recievers, and has formed a deep bond with three of his teammates (see the tatoos). Coach Brown has never had a bad word to say about his attitude, work ethic, desire to win or heart. If that's not enough for you, then you're just a bitter person who can't handle success for other people.

josh:
I never once said they "sucked the whole way" -- I simply pointed out that Texas being in the race for the National Championship unlike 85 other teams is nothing to brag about -- it wasn't earned anymore than Bowling Green's "race for the National Championship" would be. Texas played one above average team and got beat, that's that.
Better than 90% of the country? Is that based on anything other than the Biased Fan Top 25? They could very well PROVE LATER that they are better than 90% of the country, but they certainly haven't yet. Texas hasn't beaten a team higher than #62 in the Sagarin ratings (which actually takes into account strength of schedule instead of just W-L and conference favortism). So far they've beaten #62, #75, #79, #102, and #103 out of 115... Pretty easy to beat up on the lower half of the country. First time they play someone in the upper half (which granted WAS #3 OU) they get beat by double digits (I'd say 11, but OU gave them the last TD of the game, it was actually more of an 18 point loss, so I'll stick with "double digits"). Texas hasn't PROVEN anything. Like I said, they may very well be that good, but they haven't proven it yet.
None of the games you mentioned had ANY impact on Texas making it to the National Championship. Big games? Yeah... Important games? Yeah... But I think Simms' stats against Top 10 teams shows you how good he is in "big games".
And by the way, do you have a father?
