Whenever I get to work, I always cut through the library to get to my office. As I was cutting through today, the whole staff was in there celebrating someone's birthday. Anyway, there is this prick who works with me, who went to UT for undergrad. So as I walk in, he goes,
"Oh hey...we could have used you here earlier, I had a question about something having to do with farm animals, and you, of course, went to A&M".
Oh, the many, many possible retorts that fluttered through my mind. How badly should I embarrass this jerkoff in front of everyone, including the boss? Should I be harsh? Should I be forgiving? Should I be an asshole?
"Well, I told you once and I'll tell you again. I may have gone to A&M, but I don't have all the answers when it comes to your love life".
ZING. Being an asshole is fun.

I'm not sold on Miami's invincibility. I don't think we'd win, but "Miami would fucking smoke UT" is an overstatement.
Ashley - lot's of people said we'd be screwed if Richard Walton ever got hurt, cause who in the hell is that kid on the sidelines warming up? Didn't work out that way, did it? Chance Mock was the #2 player in the state of Texas in '99. He won the backup job outright this season, beating out Matt Nordgren, who was likewise one of the top prospects in the state in '00. I'm pretty sure he's got the playbook memorized, and I doubt he plans to lie down for Vincent Young next year.
And just so we're clear - Beau Trahan will see time at QB this year before Vincent Young does.
Texas and Miami are the only top teams who have won all three (or four) of their games convincingly this year. OU struggled with Bama at home, Fla, Tenn, CU and NU have lost, and ND is running seriously low on the luck of the Irish. Give me Texas and the odds, and a shot in Tempe. I'll take your bet right now. Dammit, I love college football.

Josh, I understand what you're saying about Mock, and I agree with you to an extent, but I think if anything happens to Simms, we're screwed any way you slice it. I don't know that any amount of reps could help him out. He seems rather inept, and it's my guess that if Simms did happen to go down, God forbid, we'd use Mock for all of one series before we pulled Young's redshirt.
As for Miami, the Canes have had their moments as much as any other team, including the Horns. When they play crappy teams like Temple or middle-of-the-road teams like BC, they do what they have to do to get by. But the thing about Miami is that when they play a good team, they are phenomenal. And I am looking forward to the day I can say that about Texas.

Damn, Ashley, you were doing so well, and then this little nugget slipped by the filters.
As for Mock, geez, where do I start? I don't even think this guy has the playbook memorized. If he had been playing any longer than he did, Houston might have made a game out of it. Everybody knows Mock is gonna be a career backup, so giving him any more than 2 or 3 reps of mop-up duty is really not necessary. Next year is all about Vincent Young. This is Simms's year, for heaven's sake, let him do his job.
.
What happens if Simms goes down? Then we have a true freshman, a sophomore, and a redshirt sophomore with a total of about 20 snaps backing him up. It's always good to get your backups into the game for as many snaps as possible, because a player can be hurt at any time, even while just running a simple flag pattern, no contact involved. Simms had done his job. Playing Mock accomplishes two things - first, it takes care of the point mentioned above, just in case he's ever NEEDED. Secondly, it gets Simms the hell out of harms way.
As for Miami. Did you happen to see the first half of the Temple game last week? Miami didn't exactly look like a juggernaut. They didn't exactly pulverize BC this week, either. It was 17-6 at the end of the 3rd quarter. Miami is the unchallanged #1 right now, and no one can argue with it. But this whole "Miami and 120 other teams" crap is bullshit.
And just to be clear, I'm also damn impressed with your knowledge of football.
