OU:
The BCS accounts for a conference champion win just like it does any other win -- as it should be. A WAC team that beats Hawaii U. in the conference championship does not deserve more BCS points then, say, a Colorado beating a Nebraska in the regular season.
As far as # of games played goes -- every team in the Big 12 does NOT play 12 games, only the conference champions and those who choose to play an extra game. As for it making a bigger difference in "strength of schedule" -- why should it? A team that plays three extra games against cupcake opponents should have those have a significant impact on their "strength of schedule"? That is why the BCS takes into account a total of strength of schedule, rather than having the # of games played impact it.
As for a team ranked #4 in the coaches and AP polls playing as #2 in the BCS, it is because the AP and Coaches polls are based on who the press and the coaches believe should be ranked where. This involves coaches bias, west/east coast bias, and so on. I think it was earlier in the year one of the newspaper rankings in Washington that is taken into consideration when forming the AP poll had Washington ranked #1 in the nation when they were ranked #10 everywhere else. That is why the BCS was introduced, to erase that bias and attempt to have an exact formula.
As for that last TCU game having an impact on the national picture, why shouldn't it? It showed that they were a legit team when Nebraska beat them at the beginning of the season, and that they still are. If you don't take into account things like that, then BYU would have a case (if the Hawaii game hadn't of happened). After all, they were undefeated -- but the teams they played were crap.
Lastly, I really don't understand how you can say Nebraska slipped into #2 based on name alone... The BCS is a computer ranking system with little outside influence, the bias that exists in the AP and coaches poll does not exist in the BCS. If anything, Colorado and Oregon moved up in the AP and Coaches poll based on name alone.

OU Guy,
no hard feelings, because i have respect for the sooners as a lifelong nebraska fan, but...what you and most everyone in the nation is missing is that nebraska didn't slip into the number 2 spot "on name alone." if anything, their name hurt them. the media has had it in for nebraska for years, and no one can dispute that. the coaches are usually very objective and fair in filling out their ballots, but this last weekend that wasn't the case. it's hard to blame them, however, given all the pleading they got from fowler, herbstreit, barnett and others to "do what's right"(err...wrong) and vote nebraska down. fact is neither of the 2-4 teams deserve to go, but someone has to. nebraska had the best record and played more convincingly all year. i can't wait for the huskers to prove everyone wrong. only problem is, i'm afraid even a 21 point victory over concensus number 1 miami won't wake up the media and make them realize that neither colorado nor oregon should have ever had a chance.

Man this message board went crazy while I was gone. Regardless of what school you go to, engineering classes don't leave you much time. Reading the last hundred posts to catch up was fun though. The messageboard is always a great source for a few laughs. As for Tech vs. A&M vs. UT, to each his own. I wouldn't have been happy at either of those (for various reasons) and obviously most of yall wouldn't be happy here. But I do have school spirit, and I would put up a dozen Tech students against UT or A&M students in pretty much anything, from academics to girls to beer drinking. Sure our admission standards are somewhat lower than UT and A&M, but what were yalls standards back in the 1950's (approx. 70 years after yall were founded, which is about where we are)? Maybe we will never be just like either of yall, but then again, I really wouldn't want to be. If I had wanted to go to a school like UT or A&M, I would have gone to UT or A&M. I chose Tech, and so far am happy with my decision (neither Tech nor Lubbock has made me suicidal). So just go get drunk like any normal college student and continue to bash Texas Tech. We need our daily source of laughter.
Chris
And as for the whole LCC thing, yall might want to check on what the difference is between a University and a College. Surely people as intelligent as Bluto or YARMY have done this and realize that continuing to call us a College only shows their own ignorance. Then again, the Corps probably doesn't know the difference between an assault rifle and a Daisy.
Guess I got a little wordy....
