I think it's sad when people start accusing UT of being non-diverse or racially intolerant. This is one of the most liberal fucking campuses in America, just below UC-Berkeley and Univ. of Wisconsin. If blacks aren't comfortable here, they won't be comfortable anywhere. Maybe if certain minorities were not so fucking hyper-ultra-sensitive to every little goddamned thing that happens in this world, we wouldn't have these stories every week.

Okay, I'm all for equality, but this quote really gets me: "Right now, I would not really recommend this school to any black student. Why should we come? Why should any minority student come?"

What the hell? A few people show up at a frat party wearing something "racially insensitive" and suddenly the entire university is racist and minorities shouldn't come here? That's rich. Even if it is Texas, this is one of the most liberal campuses in the country. Go to pretty much any other university in the nation and you're going to find a lot worse than this. People shouldn't be so damned sensitive about stuff. I have Asian and black friends, and everyday I walk around campus with them while members of black and Asian sororities invite them to become members of their respective organizations while they either look at me as though I'm their worst enemy or they just ignore me completely because I'm white, but I don't start crying racism. I don't give a rat's ass. But could "white" Greek organizations could get away with doing that? Hell no. Jesse Jackson would be down here before you could identify his next illegitimate child.

I can't believe this dude and his entourage are getting all offended over a freaking theme party. It's not like those guys were walking around campus in the middle of the day holding a Klan rally and threatening to start a riot. Damn.

This is all total horse shit. Basically these parties are just parodies of events/things/stereotypes/people. When you see Will Ferrell on SNL making fun of Harry Carey or cheerleaders in a parody do you see anyone bitching? No. Because it's just taking things in a lighter perspective and the maturity to be able to step back and laugh at the things we do and the way we live. I don't like this Onaje Jamal Barnes at all. He/she (whichever it is) is just doing this shit to get attention and maybe some money. Wouldn't it just look great on your resume that you lead a group of activists against racism and how you performed this marvelous revolution of the student body to BLOCK OUT all forms of racism (including parodies).

I'll tell you one thing Onaje Jamal Barnes, if you've ever laughed at comedian cracking a joke about an American tourist in Europe or anything of the sort, then you my friend are a hypocrite. Get over your power trip and get a life!

Ludicrous, absolute ludicrous is what this world has come to that someone like Onaje Jamal Barnes can stir up such a ridiculous amount of commotion over something as small as a themed party. Maybe there should just be no themes ever again in life. Because a 70's party is prejudice against our parents and the way they act. Not that it should have mattered but does now, did you know that there were actually African Americans attending the party, dressed up and all?! Yea, they can have a laugh too.

Hey in two weeks, Zeta Psi is throwing a white trash party... I think I'm going to file a complaint to have their chapter removed!!!!

Wasn't the thing with the party at A&M not just that it was supposedly racist, but that it was done on MLK day?
Tons of schools have groups that throw parties that could be considered racist, true... but most wouldn't throw the party specifically on that day. MAYBE if that day were a Friday or Saturday, but if my memory serves me, it was a monday... not a big party day.

Right, but if I'm not mistaken, the right-hand picture (why I'm giving reference points is beyond me, because the pictures are probably in a totally different layout online) is of a KA party. I don't know his name--it's a German class--99% of the class goes by a different, "German" name. The 1% exception would be me. Any theme party thrown by anyone is going to offend SOMEONE--it just depends on how vocal the offended parties were. Throwing a Gin n' Juice party is one thing--allowing guys with black paint on in is another. That's the reason they're in trouble--it was up to the frats to control the door, even if they didn't condone the attire. My statement was just that the Daily Texan's accuracy in events pertaining to racism/racial profiling in the last two days has left something to be desired, and so I remain guarded as far as how much stock I take in it.

Sorry Kelly, but the pictures don't lie. And the pictures in the Texan showed a couple guys wearing racist t-shirts.

And when this happened at A&M a few weeks ago, every media outlet that reported on it played up the fact that A&M is supposedly a racist school with no tolerance for minorities, and they made it seem like A&M was the only school that had ever had such an incident.

I don't recall anyone on this board isolating that type of incident to A&M. That said, I sit by a Fiji in a class most days, and he said some things that make me wonder how much detail was left out of the Texan article. After their shoddy reporting on the racial profiling incident in the Union in yesterday's paper, I'm more inclined to believe the Fiji.

I saw on the front page of the Daily Texan that some UT student groups were busted for throwing "gin and juice" theme parties. So...I guess all the people who were saying that ghetto parties only happened at "backwards, racist, redneck" A&M can kiss my white ass.

Oh yeah and V-day I'm being very pimp, but can't give details here since my g/f checks the boards from time to time.

By the way my 24th b-day was the 8th.

And for a minute I was about to question if Kelly hated the month since it's Black History month.

And the only reason I say that is this is the month that SOME black people get very vocal and proud that their ancestors were among the slaves brought over from Africa and how the white people oppressed them. Which is fine, but they don't need to shout it from the roof tops or preach it to me. I get it. I took history in school. My ancestors came from Canada and were not slave owners but you don't see a White history month so just shut the fuck up and sit down. If they want to hear about how my family grew up strict Catholics speaking french and shoveling snow just to reach the street, then I will sit down and listen to their stories.

More birthdays than I have money for presents, more tests/projects/papers than the other three months of the semester combined, Valentine's Day (I'm not a bitter single person--i hate the holiday no matter what my dating status is)... that's pretty much it.
