Seriously people...stop responding to the wierdo/drunken fool/"storm chaser"/who gives a crap. Maybe then he will go away and stop wasting space.

Is anyone besides me puzzled at why the University schedules only three finals per day, and why they're three hours long, and why there has to be 2 hours between each one? We could probably finish all our finals this week if they'd be more sensible about things. What really sucks is that I have a final from 7-10 on Saturday night. Next Monday cannot get here fast enough.

You have seen your fair share? YOur fair share of sooner wins over your team. You live in the TEXAS PANDHANDLES,,,,I have not seen a one in that region since I have started chasing two years ago,,,,but it is a great place to chase and I have heard many good storm chasers do there chases up there. It,s ashame a do do head like you lives there the way I figure it sooner or later a tornado will spin you around in the vortex and carry you off to the college of bayler,,, I,am very sure you have seen a tornado,,,,I think what you have seen was a texas dust devil out in your back yard,,,,,,,,don,t forget litte one your the college student and I,am the adult here, old enough to be your dad, old enough to ground you.

Gee what a mouth this Texas aggie fan has, I wonder if this trader has ever thought about washing his mouth out with soap and perhaps clean his mouth so it will post only clean messages on the board. Perhaps I should take him out on a long storm chase let him see the awsome feature of nature instead of being a trader on an aggie, u.t. board.

What the fuck? "Park my Land Rover in his yard if he thinks he's rich?" That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. You're probably new money, if you even have money.

headradio ®  - Texas A&M

yes, i'm sooo tired of hearing about this.

51 and retiring from Coaching in 7-10 years? You must be smoking something. How old is Spurrier? Who's to say RC is done? and he's how old? Shit forgot his name but the coach up at the Pitt who was ancient when he finally retired.

I swear, right now, that if Fran leaves before he has coached 3 seasons to completion, I will not utter one nasty word about him. Because as I stand here today, I acknowledge the fact that he has had a nomadic coaching career. but I truly believe he is at a place now that he considers a pinnacle of that career, and I can't see why he would go to yet another college after only a couple years.

As for him going to the NFL...doubtful. I don't recall him ever expressing an interest in an NFL job...but if he does decide to go somewhere down the road (5-7 years from now) I'll wish him the best. But like I said...the guy is 51 and is probably going to retire within 7-10 years, and I'll bet it's at A&M.

And that's all I have to say about that. I should be studying, anyway.

Is anyone else just tired of hearing about this?

college station definitly wasn't the draw for franchioni, i agree it is a stepping stone. hence the "enjoy him for the next 2 years" in my previous post. and i'll park my Land Rover in his yard if he thinks he's rich.

Nobody said moving to A&M wasn't the right decision for him. We said he went about it in a poor manner, and that reflects badly on his character. IF Fran were to do the same thing at A&M (not saying he will, but given his track record ...), how would you guys feel about it? You'd probably have a good riddance attitude, but you'd be pissed as hell because you know that what he did to his players, his administrators and the Alabama fans was wrong.

What would he have cared what people thought of him at Bama? He was offered another 10 years to coach at Bama? So, if he muddled along at Bama, big deal, he still gets paid weather he finds another job or not?

Tuesday Dec 10th 3:58pm
wh99p  - Texas A&M

So, you just made my point. Moving to A&M was the right decision for him.

hey whoop, let me explain this again, real slow. "money" don't always mean contract cash. What state is Fran's reputation gonna be after four more years of Bama not being in a bowl (2 years), not being in postseason SEC contention (2 years), and minus *9* scholarships (4 years)? He's not going to be seen as a coach who "revives programs" but one who just muddles along. He won't be hot anymore. He had to get out of Bama, but he couldn't pass up Bama's 15 mil without something similar in the bank. What A&M offers isn't "10 mil." (actually, closer to 12, but that's beside the point). What A&M offers is a chance to protect his reputation for another two years until FSU or Fla or PennSt comes open.

Tuesday Dec 10th 2:33pm
wh99p  - Texas A&M

Josh, Fran did not leave "for the money". He had a contract extention offer at Alabama for $15 million, and he chose to come to A&M for a contract worth just over $10 million. How is that leaving for the money? He's making a couple hundred grand more a year, but for less guaranteed years.

Nobody held a gun to any of those kids head and forced them to stay. Loyalty to a school goes beyond one coach. If that wasn't true, then the entire A&M football team would be transferring right now.

Tuesday Dec 10th 1:49pm
Me  - Texas A&M

Whatever. Each and every person on this board knows that given the same position Fran found himself in, they would've done the same thing (but, they might have handled it differently). And if they wouldn't have, then they are either in denial or stupid.

Never seen such doe do birded tide fans approching the board........gee I think being the sooner fan and a full birded storm chaser has got to be the best thing in life...............

Ashely, the 10-day waiting period is false. It's clearly defined in A&M's bylaws that a waiting period exists for a job that comes open via resignation, but there is NO waiting period for a job that comes open via firing. The 10-day period is a state bylaw, but those bylaws are superceeded by the university's bylaws.

Just FYI - as for the info in our posts, I think we were typing at the same time. Great minds think alike. :)

the reason that Fran is being lambasted in the media is twofold. One is very simply that he did not go back to Tuscaloosa and tell his players to their face that he was leaving - they found out from a NEWS REPORT. Now, that's bullshit. Secondly, Fran pleaded to the kids at Bama two years ago to stick with the team, touting principles of loyalty and trust. Many recruits stayed on board, and many talented atheletes chose to remain with Bama when, due to the sanctions, they could have transferred to another D-1 school and NOT had to sit out a year. Then, the first time someone with money comes along, Fran bolts, abandoning his own principles of loyalty and trust.

Yes, players get left behind all the time. But not under circumstances like this. Fran has a track record of doing this - he did the same thing to TCU, bolting after saying for months that he wasn't going anywhere, giving false impressions of security while contract talks with Bama proceeded under the radar. It's only a matter of time before he does it to A&M, and then where will all of you apologists be?

Tuesday Dec 10th 1:20pm
wh99p  - Texas A&M

Well, do you routinely leave jobs before you have another one lined up? Yep, didn't think so.

Tuesday Dec 10th 1:08pm
Ashley ®  - UT Austin

Until you can provide hard proof that Franchione didn't have the job long before RC was fired, then I'll go with what common sense tells me.

I'm not arguing that it's okay for players to leave but not coaches. I'm saying that using loyalty in your argument to get players to turn down offers from other schools just to keep your ass in a job, and then avoiding those same players when you get an offer to get out is wrong and cowardly.

I believe I pointed out that Franchione couldn't say "yes, I've accepted a position at A&M" any sooner than he did because there is a 10 day waiting period (in Texas) after the job becomes vacant before the position can be filled, plus he hadn't been "officially" contacted by A&M. But we all know the deal was being done through representatives and that it was well in the works before RC was fired. Anyone who says that isn't true is either stupid or in denial.

Tuesday Dec 10th 12:15pm
Kelly ®  - UT Austin

Hey, I didn't say a thing about them already talking to Franchione a month ago--simply that they've had the necessary funds to oust RC for quite some time, even if they hadn't yet made the final decision.
